New training help execs avoid egg on face
in press
Brack Group's workshops help professionals
develop
media techniques and better understand the press
CHARLESTON,
S.C., May 8, 2002 -- Executives can better understand the
media and what drives reporters through new customized, interactive
media and crisis training workshops now offered by the Media
Training Center, The Brack Group announced today.
"For
many people, dealing with the probing questions asked by reporters
is stressful and tough," says Andy Brack, a communications
strategist with The Brack Group. "If they're not ready
for the press, they can end up with egg on their faces."
The Brack
Group's communications specialists work with management teams
to provide specialized media training to help deal with planned
- and unexpected - media inquiries, Brack says.
"Many
times, the head of a company may know how to handle media
questions, but what if he's not there? The rest of his team
may be in the dark about dealing with reporters. In our new
media training sessions, we work with a company's top executives
to help them better understand the forces driving reporters
and the media.
Brack,
a former U.S. Senate press secretary and reporter, says better
media preparation will help businesses in media appearances
and interviews.
"If
a business executive does his homework and knows good media
techniques before an interviews or potential crisis situations,
he will be prepared to handle just about anything thrown at
him by the media," Brack says. "But just like it
takes experience and practice to learn his job, it takes practice
to learn how to respond on the spot to a reporter's questions
or in front of the glaring lights of a television camera."
Interestingly,
media training for executives also helps the press, Brack
added.
"It's
much easier for a reporter to interview someone who is prepared
and understands media styles than it is to talk with someone
who hasn't thought about what he's going to say."
